I read recently Workout: An innovative way to build a healthy body and a healthy mind This book by Dr. Jason Karp provides good motivation to exercise, along with lots of scientific evidence about its health benefits. Dr. Karp, who earned his PhD in exercise physiology, particularly emphasizes the importance of exercise in mental health. He believes that exercise is essential to keeping the brain healthy because various higher brain functions have evolved to support our ability to be physically active. It has been shown to be useful in a variety of areas. For example, exercise is better than medication in reducing depression and can help prevent cognitive decline. The first part of the book is dedicated to inspiration and scientific evidence, while the rest provides a complete guide to both cardiovascular and strength training. I found this to be a very useful book.
