The Game Developers Choice Awards 2024 nominations were full of the usual nominees, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur’s Gate 3 leading the way with seven nominations each. However, there was also a big surprise in the Game of the Year category as Alan Wake 2 missed out and Dave the Diver and Dredge were selected.

Instead, Alan Wake 2 was nominated as an honorable mention on a shortlist voted on by game developers across the industry. However, the Remedy sequel wasn’t a complete shutout, picking up nominations in categories such as Best Narrative and Best Visual Art. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Tears of the Kingdom, COCOON, and Baldur’s Gate 3 round out the remaining nominations for Game of the Year.

As for Dave the Diver, he has earned praise for his unique combination of deep sea exploration and shopkeeping. Our review called it “wholesome, surprisingly complex, and delightfully irresistible.”

The Game Developers Choice Awards are held each March during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Elden Ring took home the big prize at last year’s awards, and God of War Ragnarok also won a number of awards.
