Chelsea have provided an injury update ahead of their Premier League game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday 12 February.

The Blues suffered major injuries to multiple players throughout the 2023-24 season. Despite the return of long-term injured players such as Christopher Nkunku and Ben Chilwell, they are still without key players.

The club’s official website provided an injury update ahead of the match against Palace. Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Leslie Ugochukwu and Mark Cucurella are yet to vie for the right to return to the matchday squad.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez is making progress in his recovery. He has resumed partial training with the first team and could return to action soon. Sanchez joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer and has kept five clean sheets in 19 games this season.

Benoît Badiashile, who came on as a substitute in midweek’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Aston Villa, is undergoing medical assessment. He also picked up a hamstring injury at the start of the season, but has since made 12 appearances in all competitions.

Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas praises Benoit Badiashile

Cesc Fabregas praised defender Benoît Badiashile after Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on February 8. Conor Gallagher (11 minutes), Nicholas Jackson (21 minutes) and Enzo Fernandes (54 minutes) sealed the 3-0 win. The Blues pulled one back for Villa before Moussa Diaby (90+1 minutes).

One of the standout performances for the visiting team was Badi Ashile who won 3/5 duels, completed 41/47 passes and made 8 clearances. After the match, Fabregas praised the west London team, especially Badiashile, saying: trunk room):

“They have a lot of quality. Caicedo was Brighton’s top player and Fernandes was one of the best players at the World Cup. Palmer has the best talent, not to mention Sterling.”

“I played with DiSasi and Badiasile. Badiasire is one of the best ball-handling centre-backs among young players in Europe and has a lot of quality and talent.”

Chelsea reportedly signed Badiashile from AS Monaco in January 2023 for a transfer fee of £33 million. Since then, he has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Meanwhile, the Blues are 11th in the Premier League table but have reached the EFL Cup final and FA Cup fifth round this season.
